About UK Tax Rebate Calculator

UK Tax Rebate Calculator is a free, independent tool designed to help UK taxpayers estimate whether they may be owed a refund from HMRC. We built it because too many people overpay tax without realising — and then pay unnecessary fees to claims companies for something they can do themselves in minutes.

    What We Do

We provide a calculator that estimates your potential tax rebate based on HMRC-published rates and thresholds. The tool covers five common rebate scenarios: overpaid PAYE, work-related expenses, wrong tax codes, Marriage Allowance, and multiple jobs. We also publish guides, worked examples, and FAQs to help you understand the process and claim directly from HMRC for free.

    What We Don't Do

We do not provide professional tax, financial, or legal advice. We are not accountants, tax advisers, or HMRC agents. Our calculator produces estimates — your actual refund may differ based on factors specific to your situation. We do not process claims, handle your money, or charge fees. For personalised advice, always consult HMRC directly or speak to a qualified tax professional.

    Methodology and Data Sources

All tax rates, personal allowance figures, flat-rate expense amounts, and thresholds used in our calculator come directly from HMRC's published guidance. We update these at the start of each tax year (April). Our calculator currently supports five tax years from 2021/22 to 2025/26, covering both England/Wales and Scottish tax bands.

The calculation logic applies standard HMRC rules: income is allocated across tax bands in order, the personal allowance is tapered for incomes over £100,000, flat-rate expenses reduce taxable income, and Marriage Allowance provides a fixed tax reduction. We do not account for complex scenarios involving dividends, capital gains, pensions tax relief beyond basic, or benefits in kind.

    Privacy

Your privacy is fundamental to how we've built this tool. All calculations happen locally in your browser — no data is ever sent to our servers. When you save your inputs, they're stored in your browser's localStorage on your device only. We use Google Analytics for anonymous usage statistics (with your consent) and Google AdSense to keep the site free. Our contact form uses EmailJS to deliver messages without storing form data on any server we control.
